8% Decline in Border Arrests

This article from the Washington Post is a more comprehensive discussion in the “landmark” decrease in border arrests reported by Homeland Security Chief Michael Chertoff. As I noted last night, the number of apprehensions at the border says nothing of the number of people who are attempting to make it through, nor does it give an estimate of those who have made it through.

A point to remember: since Bush has been in office, there have a record low number of workplace raids to flush out undocumented workers. This is not because the numbers of undocumented workers in the U.S. is down, but that the administration did not make it a priority to raid workplaces in the first place.

Does anyone else smell political hype in the run-up to the mid-term election?
